Redbarn beach is a south facing, gently sloping, sandy/pebble beach. It is located on an approx. 5km long stretch of sandy coastline and is quite open to rough weather and rough seas. The beach is bounded to the rear (north west) by sand dunes leading to agricultural lands, to the north is Ballyvergan Marsh a proposed Natural Heritage Area (pNHA 000078) and to the south is Ballymacoda (Clonpriest & Pillmore) a proposed NHA (pNHA 000077) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC 000077). The beach is used to some extent by anglers, walkers, surfers and windsurfers.

Redbarn is classified as achieving Excellent Water Quality in 2025 based on the assessment of bacteriological results for the period 2022 to 2025. Redbarn has achieved an Excellent Water Quality rating for the four consecutive years 2022 to 2025. Annual water quality ratings are generally calculated using monitoring results over a four-year period and are assessed against stringent bacterial limits to protect bather health.
