A reason to visit, and the details to plan it
Our guides and suggested itineraries bring together original writing and research from named sources. They explain what there is to see, what makes a place interesting and how it might fit into your day. Maps help you see where those ideas lead and what else is close by.
Practical details come from sources such as venue websites, event organisers, public bodies and OpenStreetMap. Where available, you will find information about opening hours, admission, access and facilities, with links to check the details for yourself. Some places have fuller guides than others; the information shown depends on the sources available.
Plan the way there
Choose where you are starting, the day you are travelling and the time you want to leave. Bus and train searches use the National Transport Authority’s published timetable to show available connections, including departure and arrival times, operators and changes.
Walking sections help you plan the journey to the first stop and from the final stop to your destination. Where a walking connection can be calculated from mapped paths, it is included in the journey. Check any section marked as incomplete before setting out.
Distances labelled “in a straight line” help you judge how close places are. Use the directions tool to check the route along roads or paths and allow time for stops along the way.
Sources you can follow
Each source contributes a different part of the picture. Venue and organiser pages support visiting details and event information. These public sources help put places and journeys on the map:

- Place locations, streets, paths and boundaries, together with business details where contributors have recorded them.

- Published bus and train timetables used to plan journeys for your selected date and time.
- Central Statistics Office
- Census information used for county population figures.
- Wikimedia Commons
- Photographs shared under their stated licences, with the photographer and licence credited alongside each image.
Check the detail that matters to your visit
Opening hours, prices and programmes can change. A check date refers to the information alongside it. Before making a special trip, follow the venue or organiser link for the latest arrangements.
Map coverage varies, especially in smaller places. A missing listing or facility may simply be unrecorded. OpenStreetMap source links let you inspect a place’s record and suggest a correction. Distances and journey calculations are produced by MyMap, so an error in those calculations belongs here.
