How MyMap works
Do I have to share my location?
No. Location is requested only when you press the location button. You can also browse the county and town directory without sharing it.
How is my location used?
Opening the nearby map sends coordinates to MyMap to load places around that point. Category lists calculate distances in your browser. If you request directions, the route’s start and destination are sent to MyMap to work out the journey. Your location is not added to the page address when you use the location button.
Are these walking distances?
The nearest-place lists use straight-line distances. A river, railway or private entrance can make the actual journey longer. Open a place and request directions for a route along mapped roads and paths.
Is every nearby business listed?
The lists use OpenStreetMap records, so coverage and detail vary. Category counts refer to mapped places across Ireland, not just your neighbourhood. A missing place or opening time is a gap in the available data.
