Fionntrá is a relatively sheltered sandy beach facing due east/southeast onto Cuan Fionntrá. Cuan Fionntrá is a sheltered inlet of Dingle Bay. There is an extensive sand dune system located on the beach which is dominated by marram grass. The land immediately beyond the dune system primarily comprises a mix of wetland and grassland. Activities are regulated under the Kerry County Council Beach Bye-Laws, 2013. Fionntrá is approximately 7km west of an Daingean and is located within the South Western River Basin District.

Fionntrá (Ventry) is classified as achieving Excellent Water Quality in 2025 based on the assessment of bacteriological results for the period 2022 to 2025. Fionntrá (Ventry) has achieved an Excellent Water Quality rating for the four consecutive years 2022 to 2025. Annual water quality ratings are generally calculated using monitoring results over a four-year period and are assessed against stringent bacterial limits to protect bather health.
