    Glendalough

    In the valley above Laragh, in the Wicklow Mountains · The site is open; the visitor centre charges

    Six hundred years of monastic settlement in one valley: a round tower, several stone churches and carved crosses, with the Office of Public Works running an interpretive centre beside them. The centre is €5 for an adult, €3 for a child and €13 for a family, and it is open daily, to 6pm from mid March to mid October and to 5pm the rest of the year. The centre itself is fully accessible; the Office of Public Works says the graveyard is very difficult for a wheelchair and the walkways are uneven.

    Wicklow Mountains National Park

    Nearly 23,000 hectares across the county · Free to walk in; some car parks charge

    The largest of Ireland's national parks and the only one in the east. The National Parks and Wildlife Service says access is free and that charges may apply for parking: the Upper Lake car park at Glendalough charges, the Laragh car park does not. The information office at Glendalough opens 10am to 5.30pm from March to October and 9.30am to 4.30pm from November to February.

    Avondale

    Two kilometres south of Rathdrum · Ticketed, and the car park is charged separately

    Charles Stewart Parnell's house, and the forest around it, which Coillte runs. A treetop walk and viewing tower were built here: €18 for an adult and €15 for a child aged four to seventeen, with the house itself €16 and €13, or €30.60 for both. Parking is €6 a car. The ninety metre slide down from the tower is another €2, paid at the slide.

    Lough Tay

    In the valley below Luggala, off the Military Road · Seen from the road above, not walked to

    The lake and the ground around it belong to the Luggala estate, which states that there is no right of way across it and no access to the water. Visit Wicklow names the Military Road above, where it meets the Wicklow Way, as the place to see it from. This site's own measurement agrees: no public road or path comes within sixty metres of any part of the shore.
