The story behind Listowel Castle
The Fitzmaurice castle guarded a crossing of the Feale. Two towers and their connecting wall remain, including the high arch that gives the ruin its distinctive outline. Its history includes the siege of 1600, but the surviving architecture is reason enough to look closely.

In season, guided access takes visitors into the remaining structure. The castle stands beside central Listowel, making it a compact stop rather than an isolated excursion. At present, an exterior view should not be mistaken for an available tour.
