The MacSweeneys occupied this fifteenth-century stronghold beside Sheephaven Bay. Water protects much of the site, while a rock-cut moat strengthens the landward approach. The setting is as revealing as the masonry.

The grounds provide the main unbooked visit. Walk around the enclosure and look at the tower against the bay. Entry to the keep is a separate arrangement, so a trip to the grounds should not be described as a guaranteed interior tour.
