The story behind Glenveagh Castle
This is a nineteenth-century hunting residence, not a medieval fortress. John George Adair’s estate is also associated with the Derryveagh evictions of 1861, a necessary part of its history. Later owners developed the house and gardens before the property passed to the state.

Ticketed interiors; park access separate
NPWS lists self-guided castle visits on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, with bank holiday Monday exceptions. Adult admission is €10. March to October castle hours are 09:15 to 17:15. The park is free to enter; the visitor shuttle is separately charged, currently €5 adult return. Check the latest visitor notice.
