The story behind Blackrock Castle Observatory
Blackrock began as a sixteenth-century defence at the approach to Cork harbour. Its position still explains the building: water and ships, rather than an inland estate, were the concern. The castle now houses an observatory and science centre.
What you will see
The visit combines the castle setting with Ireland in Space exhibits and a Star Show. It suits a day staying close to Cork, particularly if the people in your group have different levels of interest in medieval history. Look at the harbour from the site as well as the displays inside.

Ticketed admission
The operator lists daily opening from 10:00 to 18:00, with last entry at 17:00 and adult admission of €11. Individual visitors can buy on arrival. Use the current programme for show arrangements. Older tourism listings quote lower fees and a different tour format, so those have not been used here.
