The story behind Mallow Castle

The surviving fortified house belongs to the sixteenth century, although this crossing of the Blackwater had earlier defences. Tall windows and projecting turrets show the tension between domestic comfort and protection. The neighbouring later mansion is a separate building.

What you will see

Come for the ruined exterior, grounds and connected park paths. The council has restored the walled garden and linked the castle grounds with the lower park and town park. This is an outdoor heritage visit, not a furnished castle tour.
